The first step in the process is for the property owner to apply with the Routt County Building Department for a building permit. A number of agencies—including Steamboat Lake Water and Sanitation District—need to give approval prior to the Building Department issuing a Building Permit. The Water and Sanitation District requires that the water and sewer tap fee be paid in full before the district will sign off on the permit. As of January 1st, 2023, the tap fee is $18,000. This includes the tap inspection fee.
The following must be submitted to the district administrative assistant when applying for the water and sewer taps.
- Completed tap application.
- Tap fees (payable in full at time of application).
The Routt County Building Department will contact the district administrative assistant to review the submitted site plan for the structure. The water and sewer district will review the site plan for the separation of water and sewer lines. Upon receipt of the tap fees and approval of the site plan, the district will sign off on the building permit.
The property owner is required to use only those excavating contractors that have been approved to do work in the district. This information can be obtained from the district administrative assistant at admin@steamboatlakewater.com.
Forty-eight hours' notice is required to schedule an SLWSD inspector to be on site when the taps are installed.
Taps may be made ONLY from May 15 to October 15, subject to weather conditions.
Water and Sewer service fees will be initiated upon approval of the completed taps, regardless of when occupancy of the home occurs.
